In the English Premier League, one of the five biggest soccer league in the world, players earn 2.5 million pounds on average in 2017. Even on the top wage list for sports players, footballers are always on the top. Then why do footballers get paid so much? First of all, their career last only for about 15 years. Approximately, their career starts at 19 and ends at 35. Because their sports career is relatively shorter than other sports, the wages are high correspondingly. However, most importantly, it is all about the supply and demand.
Buying a top players brings huge benefits for the club. Having superstars in the team can help the team win, which is followed by huge amount of investment and premium. Also, superstars also effect the sales of the club products. Withe the star, many fans will follow, meaning that the clubs can increase their ales of branded products. Plus, the talented players are extremely rare. Last but not least, the effect of footballs are beyond what normal people can think of. With popular football, the entire image of a country can change; it even helps to solve a political issue. Thus, the cost-effectiveness is not the club’s priority and clubs invest plethora of money to the players.
