Global Warming:learn about it and find solution 2014-11-06 ¿ÀÈÄ 7:56:00

Let's speak about the global warming. Even though we acknowledge that the global warming terrifies the living creatures on the earth, it seems that we don't take this matter seriously. So I would like to inform that our lives have been threatened by three main factors which are all related to the global warming. Those three are Greenhouse effect, Rise of ocean level, and Melting ice from Artic and Antarctica.

Let me talk about greenhouse effect. Greenhouse effect is an effect that accelerates the global warming.
The greenhouse effect is a process caused by greenhouse gases, which occur naturally in the atmosphere.
This process plays a crucial role in warming the Earth¡¯s surface, making it habitable.
However, human-generated greenhouse gas emissions upset the natural balance and lead to increased warmth.
The Sun emits energy that is transmitted to Earth.
About 30% of the Sun¡¯s energy is reflected directly back into space by the atmosphere, clouds, and surface of the Earth.
The rest of the Sun¡¯s energy is absorbed into the Earth¡¯s system.
The atmospheric concentration of greenhouse gases has increased over the past two centuries, largely due to human-generated carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels.
This increase has amplified the natural greenhouse effect by trapping more of the energy emitted by the Earth.
This change causes Earth¡¯s surface temperature to increase.

How about the rise of the ocean level?
The annual rate of rise over the past 20 years has been 0.13 inches (3.2 millimeters) a year, roughly twice the average speed of the preceding 80 years.
Over the past century, the burning of fossil fuels and other human and natural activities has released enormous amounts of heat-trapping gases into the atmosphere.
These emissions have caused the Earth's surface temperature to rise, and the oceans absorb about 80 percent of this additional heat.
It is like the malicious cycle of devastating the earth.
What do you think causes the rise in sea levels?
You probably think that the trapped heat melts the ice and the sea level will rise.
Yes, that is one of the reasons. But I would like to talk about it in more details.
The rise in sea levels is linked to three primary factors, all induced by this ongoing global climate change: Thermal expansion, melting of glaciers and polar ice caps, and ice loss from Greenland and West Antarctica.

And what could be the consequences of the rise of ocean level?
When sea levels rise rapidly, even a small increase can have devastating effects on coastal habitats.
As seawater reaches farther inland, it can cause destructive erosion, flooding of wetlands, contamination of aquifers and agricultural soils, and lost habitats for fish, birds, and plants.
In addition, hundreds of millions of people live in areas that will become increasingly vulnerable to flooding.

We learned about the facts of the global warming.
The effect of the global warming is shocking, isn't it?
What could be the predictions of the rise of sea level?
Most predictions say that the warming of the planet will continue and likely will accelerate. Oceans will likely continue to rise as well, but predicting the amount is an inexact science. A recent study says we can expect the oceans to rise between 2.5 and 6.5 feet (0.8 and 2 meters) by 2100, enough to swamp many of the cities along the U.S. East Coast.
How scary!
Korea can't be out of this terrible situation.
We should also concern this matter seriously.
Because this is not a problem of a certain country but of the world.
It is the social problem that people should pull all the strength to reduce the pace.
Concerning this matter, what should we do or what can we do?
I think that we should let others know the facts about the global warming first and make plans to solve this harmful situation.
I wanted to share the serious environmental and controversial matters with you.
Knowing the situation and finding the solution, we can live better lives in the future.
