Bill Gatz¡¯s Discourtesy: Really Gatz¡¯s Fault? 2013-05-08 ¿ÀÈÄ 9:57:00

On April 22th, Bill Gatz visited president Park Geun-Hye in purpose of Nuclear Technology cooperation, because Bill Gatz was now the CEO of an energy development form. However, it was his attitude that caught people¡¯s attention. When Park Geun-Hye and Gatz shook hands, Gatz put his left hand in his pocket. That caused the problem. For this reason, Koreans began to criticize Gatz of discourtesy.

Although Gatz¡¯s act was America¡¯s culture, people thought it was not the way to treat a country¡¯s president, and Gatz should understand Korean culture. Moreover, one of America¡¯s newspaper stated, ¡®Putting a hand into a pocket means there¡¯s something in it.'
But is this all Gatz¡¯s Fault?

When Gatz shook hands with other people, he usually put one hand in his pocket, so there is nothing Gatz can do with meeting the Korean President. So, in other words, as Gatz has to understand Korean culture, we also have to understand American culture. The White House said, ¡®People can think this act as a discourtesy. However, America has freewheelingness, so we shouldn¡¯t think it too sensitively.¡¯

In my opinion, people should understand about each other¡¯s culture, and every country has their own manners and culture. Moreover, I hope this will be a good experience to Koreans and to Gatz.
