A video of a sea turtle rescued from a beach in Central America was uploaded on YouTube in 2015. The sight of the turtle with a plastic straw stuck in its nose shocked the world.
The video has not just shocked the world, but brought some changes. Plastic straws, which used and discarded at random in daily life, became permanent removing targets. More than 40 global companies, including Starbucks McDonald's, have declared to get rid of plastic straws.
Some scientists and companies are paying attention to biodegradable materials, instead of plastic that doesn't decay.
The Korea Chemical Research Institute developed a bioplastic that breaks down 100 percent by microbes within six months if buried in the ground. Researchers believe that plastic straws and plastic bags can be replaced by them.
But most importantly, we have to reduce the use of plastic from today.
