Special Admission - Really not a problem? 2013-04-04 ¿ÀÀü 12:54:00

Every year, cases of famous celebrities who enter elite universities become the public¡¯s top interest. A majority of them enter by special admission, which means that unlike regular students, their grades or school records hardly matter. Usually universities take the students in to boost the popularity of their school. However many people are stating that special admission is unfair for regular students.

Quite a lot of famous figures take courses that bear no resemblance to their jobs. It is difficult for people to acknowledge the fact that many popular figures take courses that they have never actually prepared for. If celebrities keep on taking courses that have nothing to do with their job is will be a burden for other students. For instance, many K-pop singers have entered drama departments. However the astonishing reality is that few singers have actually stared in a movie or drama. A well-known example is Seo-Hyeon, a member of Girls¡¯ Generations, who entered Dong-Guk University¡¯s drama department without appearing in a single film.

Also the special admission policy is getting more insults because the public knows how hard it is for a normal student to enter a prestigious university. Nowadays all high school students are struggling to enter limited elite universities. However the schools that celebrities are going, through special admission of course, are universities that so many high school students dream of attending. Many critics are saying that the celebrities are attending universities without going through the burden that normal students have to go through. The students that actually enter these universities are ones who only slept a couple of hours a day and studied constantly.

Universities have no strict standard for special admission. Celebrities who lack talent and abilities might be accepted because of their popularity. On the other hand, an artist who isn¡¯t well-known but has exceptional talent might be dropped because the public doesn¡¯t know him well. These incidents actually happen quite frequently because universities usually pick stars that are well-known. Unless universities fix their special admission policies, this cycle of burden will continue.
