In Yeouido Middle School, we have a global leadership program for anyone who wants to improve their English abilities or have the leadership for the global society. The word 'glocal' means global + local which refers to international pursuit to enhance and globalization with local. Our program's ultimate objection is to cultivate the students to obtain the qualifications required for the glocal leaders.


As for the course, there are two programs for each semester. In my case, I took the primary on Mondays and Wednesdays after school. There are four classes which are separated by the results of level tests based on one's proficiency in English. The lesson is taught by foreign teachers and it's mostly about devating. We separate into two groups, pros and cons and devate under the formal rules of actual devating. At first, even the high skilled students seem to be shy, but as we get to know more about each other and with practice on expressing our thoughts clear and loud, all of us could be more positive and confident to express our point of view and lead each other to cooperate.

Besides these classes on weekdays, there are also a lecture on Saturdays. Every time, people from different places come to tell us about their successful lifestory or helpful tips for teenagers like us.

On December 19th, students who participated the program joined the global leadership camp that was held in Daeseong-ri Training Institute. When they arrived the first program was 'Ice breaking'. They played fun games to break the hard atmosphere. The principal suggested 'The self fulfilling prophecy' next. There are many celebrities who acheived their dreams by doing this. For example, the former president of South Korea, Young-Sam Kim has also done this when he was young, he said "I am a great president of Korea!!!" and his dream came true.

Students have to write down what they want to be or a quality that they are willing to have, then memorize this by heart. It was not that easy for all of them to claim this out loud to the crowd but it was a great experience for those who were seriously thinking about their future dreams and also lack self-confidence.
