Tough times for Korea¡¯s elderly 2015-10-31 ¿ÀÈÄ 1:59:00

Korea was originally a small third world country that came out of the Korean War. But today it is one of the most highly technologically advanced, as well as educated country in the world. As well as becoming one of the more notable superpowers in Asia. Most of this credit should go to the today¡¯s elderly. Why? Because this generation is the generation that helped made this unbelievable leap to bring its country out of the ruins. But unfortunately, as the economy is growing slower we are starting to forget about our elderly. Today most of them live at home alone as their young become independent and stopped relying on them. Originally in Korea, it was quite normal for the young and their family to live together with their parents and make a big family. But however, today the former culture has slowly disappeared as it slowly shifted because of the rapid economic growth. This means that the lives of the young became busier and could not make any time to look after their aging parents.
Now you can see why we may call today¡¯s elderly the ¡®Forgotten Generation¡¯. In order to reduce the poverty of our elderly we must change our social perspective. First, we must increase the number of social volunteer workers to help these people make a living or just to comfort them in their time of loneliness. Second we shall establish more laws to help them financially as well. And last we should change our point of view that the elderly are lazy and are slowing up our economy.
Personally, these people are the ones who we must owe to the most. As they gave it their all to help their nation succeed and become what it is today. I hope that in the near future we can live in a country where the elderly are not forgotten but thanked
