It¡¯s a hot summer! Nowadays, heat wave warnings are continuing. The temperature is getting higher and it is over 30¡É these days. So, many students are having cold snacks such as ice-creams and real fruit juices in order to avoid the sticky and humid heat. However, these delicious snacks contain a lot of sugar. Sugar is an important nutrition in our body. But, if you have it too much, it can cause many serious diseases.
Students are eating cold fruit juices because of the hot weather. So, many juice shops are rising up. These shops sell inexpensive juices for students. It is popular because the price is not expensive than other beverages, and it is also tasty.
People also like it because they put real fruit instead of artificial food additive. That means people think the juice is not bad for our health. However, it is not true. These shops are putting too much sugar to make it delicious and sweet. For example, a famous juice shop J****, puts almost 35~50gs of sugar in one cup of juice. This may be delicious for a while, but this can be the worst choice for our health. Ice-creams are even worse. Most of the ice-cream companies put more than 80g of sugar.
Surprisingly, WHO (World Health Organization) is recommending to eat less than 25g of sugar in a day. Then, if you eat one cool ice-cream or a cup of fruit juice, you will eat more sugar than the recommended amount. A lot of sugar is not good. It can cause cavity, diabetes, obesity, and other serious diseases. You might think diabetes cannot easily come to students, but childhood diabetes patients are increasing nowadays because too much of sugar.
We need sugar to have a balanced life. It makes food delicious and helps us make energy. But you have to remember that too much is as bad as too little. Sugar is the same. A lot of sugar is also bad for our health. We should control ourselves to have a balanced and happy life.
