An estimated toll of sixty percent of the world's violence related deaths have been in the Middle East and North Africa region since 2000. According to a report by the International Monetary fund, Middle East and North Africa states that bordering war zones have suffered an average annual GDP decline of 1.9 percentage points in recent years. Many wounds made by the Lebanese civil war, taking place in 1975 to 1990, have yet to be healed.
Over one million Syrians are in Lebanon, inclduing migrant workers, registered and unregistered refugees. Many Lebanese have stereotypes that make them view Syrians as low-income, uneducated, workers of a low status, criminals or soldiers. The Lebanese tend to blame the refugees for the greater insecurity they present, and Syrians accuse the Lebanese of disrespecting, exploiting and assaulting them. The Lebanese people are fed up with any attacks and wars; they are exhausted with them.
