The Crimean peninsula¡¯s territory is territorial right is being disturbed due to Russia¡¯s greed. The Crimean Peninsula is a major land mass on northern coast of the Black Sea, which is mostly surrounded by water. Ukraine was once conquered by Soviet Union as well as the Crimean. However, in the 20th century, the Soviet Crimean Oblast was transferred from Russia to Ukraine and it eventually became the Autonomous Republic of Crimea within newly independent Ukraine in 1991. The status of Sevastopol, a strategically important port and the peninsula's largest city, was disputed by the Russian Federation, and only after a lengthy process was it declared a "city with special status" within Ukraine in 1997. So it was proven to be Ukraine¡¯s territory.
According to territorial rights, Russia¡¯s military ships or facilities cannot be transferred through Ukraine¡¯s the Crimean without permission from Ukraine. The Crimean Peninsula takes a big role. If Russia can take back the Crimean, they can influence military influence to Europe through Mediterranean without any approval from Ukraine. Also in winter, most of Russian ports get frozen. However, the Crimean is warm every season due to Black Sea. Russia needs a place to put an ice-free port in winter. To get all these privileges, Russia¡¯s President Vladimir V. Putin has ordered Russian army to invade the Crimean and take control. However, over 60% of the Crimean Peninsula¡¯s citizens are from Russia. So when the election whether to have the Crimean be united with Russia was held, most people agreed to Russia. This became a global issue and America¡¯s President Obama is convincing Putin to stop the invasion and take out military forces from the Crimean Peninsula. If Russia doesn¡¯t stop their actions, international conference might be held to arbitrate Russia. But for now, no one knows who the owner of the Crimean will be.
