Recently, many countries are facing confusion, because of Zica virus.
Zica is usually spreaded by the Aedes, and can't be prevented with medicine or vaccine yet. If the general public is infected, they will have headache, light fever, diarrhea, and will recover it about 3~7 days afterwards. There is a concern that if pregnant women are infected, they might bear babies with microcephalia. Many scientist are working hard to produce vaccine for Zica. However, is it possible to prevent the virus with only producing vaccine?
WHO thinks that El Niño is the reason for spread of Zica. Because of El Niño, temperature and rainfall are increasing, and makes a perfect climate for mosquitoes, that are vectors of Zica.
Climate change affects human health directly. Infectious diseases that had spreaded in 21st century, such as SARS, MERS, Evola virus had emerged because of climate change. In the past, 3384 people died in 1994 in South Korea because of sweltering heat. It was exceptional event then, but this kind of tragedy can become usual thing in the near future! According to WHO, by 2030, 2.5million people will die every year because of the climate change.
To prevent this tragedy, 195 countries established a new policy "to regulate the increase scale of average temperature of Earth to 1.5 degrees maximum compared to pre-industrial-revolution era", and "to report decrease of carbon every 5years staring from 2023." in The Paris Climate Change Convention in 2015.
We can slow down the speed of spread of infectious disease by using vaccine and medicine, but that's not enough. Eventually, virus will come back more powerfully, become immune to the medicine.
That's why we should have stronger climate change regulation and alert on the infectious diseases.
