On 19 April, Tottenham decided to sack the head coach Jose Mourinho after just 17 months in charge. Spurs decided to sack Mourinho due to his disappointing performance and high wage (£10.5 million per year). Spurs sat in seventh in the EPL table which is a relatively low rank for a big club like the spurs. Thus, Mourinho was sacked before finishing the season.

Two months have passed from then but Spurs’ head coach position is still vacant. Spurs had numerous meetings with different managers but they got nowhere. Managers who were mentioned to be the new spurs’ head coach include Julian Nagelsmann, Brendan Rodgers, Hansi Flick, Erik ten Hag, Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca, and Gennaro Gattuso.

Recently, the spurs seemed to appoint a new coach. Spurs finalized the deal with Gennaro Gattuso who was in charge of AS Roma and they were about to announce it. Gattuso quitted his role as a manager in Fiorentina after 23 days in charge. Thus, spurs were aiming for appointing Gattuso to the vacant position. Many journalists reported that the deal is done and there will be an official announcement within a week. However, fans moved to create the hashtag #NoToGattuso which was trending on Twitter in the UK. Fans strongly opposed Gattuso being the new manager blaming his controversial comments on racism and women. Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust claimed that they talked about the sentiment among fans to the club. Eventually, the deal was over, and spurs decided not to appoint Gattuso.

Some experts are criticizing the current spurs’ chaotic situation. Agbonlahor, an English former professional footballer, criticized the spurs saying “If I was a Spurs player I’d be embarrassed. They’ve tried about eight managers and they’ve all turned them down.” Also, he said, “It’s embarrassing for Spurs, they’re just making it harder for themselves now because the manager they do get will no they’re like 12th choice now.” As such, many experts are criticizing the embarrassing managerial development of spurs.

Tottenham’s manager deal is still in a fog. Currently, Spurs have a link with Nuno Espírito Santo, former head coach Wolverhampton Wanderers. It will be best if the spurs can appoint a new head coach as soon as possible since they are just making it worse as mentioned by Agbonlahor.
