What is the real meaning of Education?
Have you ever thought?
The purpose of education is nurturing a person who live their life happily and worthily. I agreed with that statement, because I always think that education help me find my ego, like who I am, what part I can do the best. something like that.
Well actually The North Sea indicated on the poet below this paragraph shows us the way for achieving the true meaning of Education.
북해를 바라보며 그는 울었다

차고 푸른 수평선을 끌고 바람과 물결의
경계를 넘어가는 북해를 바라보며 그는 울었다
내일 학교 가는날이라고 하면
신난다고 소리치는 볼 붉은 꼬마 아이들 바라보다
그의 눈동자에는 북해의 물방울이 날아와 고이곤 했다
폭 빠져서 놀 줄 알아야 집중력이 생긴다고 믿어
몇 시간씩 놀아도 부모가 조용히 해주고
바람과 눈 속에서 실컷 놀고 들어와야
차분한 아이가 된다고 믿는 부모들을 보며
배우고 싶은 내용을 자기들이 자유롭게 정하는데도
교실 가득한 생각의 나무를 보며
그는 피요르드처럼 희고 환하게 웃었다
아는 걸 다시 배우는 게 아니라
모르는 걸 배우는 게 공부이며
열의의 속도는 아이마다 다르므로
배워야 할 목표도 책상마다 다르고
아이들의 속도가 생각보다 빠르거나 늦으면
학습목표를 개인별로 다시 정하는 나라
변성기가 오기 전까지는 시험도 없고
잘했어, 아주 잘했어. 아주아주 잘했어
이 세 가지 평가밖에 없는 나라
친구는 내가 싸워 이겨야 할 사람이 아니라
서로 협력해서 과제를 함께 해결해야 할 멘토이고
경쟁은 내가 어제의 나하고 하는 거라고 믿는 나라
나라에서는 뒤처지는 아이가 생기지 않게 하는 게
교육이 해야 할 가장 큰일이라 믿으며
공부하는 시간은 우리 절반도 안 되는데
세계에서 가장 공부 잘하는 학생들을 보며
그는 입꼬리 한쪽이 위로 올라가곤 했다
가르치는 일은 돈으로 사고파는 상품이 아니므로
언제든지 나랏돈으로 교육을 시켜주는 나라
청소년에 관련된 제도는 차돌멩이 같은 청소년들에게
꼭 물어보고 고치는 나라
여자아이는 활달하고 사내 녀석들은 차분하며
인격적으로 만날 줄 아는 젊은이로
길러내는 어른들 보며 그는 눈물이 핑 돌았다
학교가 작은 우주라고 믿는 부모와
머리칼에서 반짝이는 은빛이
눈에서도 반짝이는 아이들 보며
우리나라 아이들을 생각하며
마침내 그는 울었다
흐린 하늘이 그의 눈물을 내려다보고 있었고
경계를 출렁이다가도 합의를 이루어낸 북해도
갈등이 진정된 짙푸른 바다를 바라보고 있는 이들의
가슴도 진눈깨비에 젖고 있었다

Right. It's Finland. Finland is famous for their education system which lead their academic achievement ranking to the highest.
Then What is their objective of education?
Finland's representative purpose of education is "nurturing grown-ups with sound civic spirit"
Teachers in Finland actualize their purpose through educating children fairly, they never discriminate student by their score
because it may deprive confidence of the dropout who have to overcome their drawback.
When I found their purpose, I was shocked because I usually think that the competition between people spawns the
development, but they have cooperation in their mind. So I found reasons why.
Once, the superintendent of schools in Finland named Erkki Aho said that competition is only allowed after becoming a good citizen.
Also, children's process of growth is different each other, it is acutally impossible for them to get an opportunity to compete fairly.
Then How they achieve thier objectives?
Firstly, they invitate absolute evaluation system.
In this system, students are estimated by their degree of achievement, not by
comparing with other student's score relatively. Also, there also exist a report card, but the ranking is not indicated on it. So children are always confident on their score, and they find happiness in their own development. They can learn what's the
real meaning of study through these kinds of process.
On top of that, the school and teachers educate student to narrow the academic deviation. When the class starts, 2~3 teachers go inside the classroom, this is rare thing to see in Korea. The reason why teachers are formed in a group is to offer differentiated academic system and respective teaching. So children can understand the same topic regardless of their level.
Also, win-win system is helpful. The high level student can be a tutor for low level student. Through this activity, they realize what is cooperation, and that thing
is essential in studying.
Finally, after every student take the standardized scholastic aptitude exam, which exists for eliminating the dropout student, students verified as straggler, they are taught again. Teacher are also gives much prasies to them for making them overcome their academic drawbacks.
With those action, Finland has ranked the first place in PISA, the evaluation of international academic achievement consequently.
Also, the acadmic deviation is the lowest. How brilliant!
I ask again, What's the real meaning of Education?
