Debates on Euthanasia 2016-08-15 ¿ÀÈÄ 7:48:00

Euthanasia, (¥î¥ô¥è¥í¥á¥ò¥é¥á in Greek) refers to "valuable death". In specific, it is the means of artificially terminating one's life with either passive or active way. Starting from Holland in 2002, currently six countries including Belgium, Luxemburg, Switzerland, Colombia and Canada are partially legalizing the law permitting Euthanasia; however, only in a passive methods, such as suspending the "End-of-Life Care" or taking away Oxygen masks.

Without doubts, this issue is a huge controversy. The technology of Euthanasia is relatively recent, however, there has been numerous talks about whether or not to grant people rights to decide when, where, and how to end their lives. Euthanasia is a favorite topic for debates in all grade schools: even in elementary schools. Euthanasia can be considered a good way of life termination by patients whose possibility to survive is nearly zero. However, the argument comes from the naturalness of death: some see Euthanasia as a manmade "murder". Mostly ethicists or clergies may disagree to the method. According to natural law that came out from Emanuel Kant's Deontology, Euthanasia is against the nature, in that the alive must wait for their deaths to come naturally. Clergies agree to the idea that life is something most valuable granted by their sacred God, "The Father", so to say. There are also arguments about the possibility of Euthanasia abuses. Some may commit suicide in the guides of Euthanasia. Some may also be socially enforced to die, mostly the vulnerable.

Efthanasia(attempting to be Greek), though, can also bring great benefits to both patients themselves and others related to them. When accepting someone's death, enormous burdens are to follow, both economically and mentally. Euthanasia may bring considerable substantive advantage to the family. They save a lot of burdens coming from hopeless, meaningless end-of-life care. More than pecuniary matters, Euthanasia allows patients to pass away in a highly dignified way. Most medical cares for patients who are about to die are not graceful at all: they bring tremendous pain and trauma. Their family members would definitely not want to see them dying away in pain. Euthanasia is a proper solution for this problem.

Apart from religion and particular traditional ethics, it seems that there are no proper reasons to be against the "Valuable Death". The only obstacle to throw away is a mere but influential "perception" about Euthanasia. With appropriate laws to prevent abuse, Euthanasia can be in fact perceived ethical, since it guarantees the dignity of patients' deaths. With continuous scientific development, modern ethic theories may have to look Euthanasia in a different, positive way.
