For the past few years there have been some controversy over the dispute on whether or not we should regulate cigarette advertisement. There are notable disadvantages that banning cigarette ads have, and we should be aware of this and think for ourselves is banning cigarette ads necessary?
If we ban cigarette ads, then the government would have the privilege to ban the advertisements of everything it thinks harmful to people. This is completely non-sense. In our society, every person, or business has the right to express their ideas, and make their products known, this is an important part of a capitalistic society. Just because you may not want other people to smoke, does not give you, or the government to regulate it. All advertisements have a warning already on them. Therefore, banning cigarette ads does not prevent people from smoking.

Does this mean alcohol and fast food advertisement must be banned for the sole reason that it is unhealthy to the public?
