Some people say that parents do not need to intervene in their children’s studies. Others go as far as to say that children are the only ones that are responsible for their own education. However, it is rather illogical that parents today are more involved in their children’s education than the past considering educational and emotional reasons.

First, there are educational reasons why parents no longer care about their children’s education. Parents’ interference cannot influence their children’s education. Although they might be able to give a little help and advice to their children, it is children themselves who eventually need to make effort. Without children’s own effort, parents’ care and involvement will be of no use. I once read an article in the New York Times, which stated that over our own efforts and talents were responsible for over 80 percent of our success, while external influence only accounted for the remaining rest. Likewise, it is clearly proven that external influence, including the interference of parents on children’s education. Therefore, there are clear educational reasons why parents are exerting less influence on their children’s education.

Next, there are emotional reasons why parents are less involved in their children’s education than in the past. children often rejects their parents’ care and support and even decides to go against it. Especially the teenagers nowadays, as they undergo puberty, they tend to develop their own self awareness and go against their parents advice.
