Last Tuesday The South Korean government announced it has 6 Aegis destroyers. Originally The Korean Navy planned to have 3 destroyers .Aegis destroyers can catch 1000 targets and can attack 80 targets at once. There are only 5 countries(USA, Japan, Norway, Spain and korea) that have Aegis destroyers and cruisers. One ship costs 1.5-2 trillion won.
And recently, there are many troubles between china, japan and korea. Before IMF, YS government planed to have aircraft carrier and Aegis destroyers, but it was stopped by the IMF . for 9 years, there was no plan to have an Aegis destroyers
in 2007, the first Aegis ship was launched. The korean Navy planed to make a movement fleet that composed of an LPD (helicopter carrier) two KDX3 (Aegis destroyers) and two KDX2. In oder to protest our seas, korea must have 3 fleets : I for west the west, I for the East, and I for the south. Finally, in 2013, korean navy planned to have fleets. Japan has 8 Aegis destroyers and China have 12 Chinese Aegis destroyers. To protect ourselves from our neighbors, we have to have a strong navy.
