As teens, our duration of sleep has definitely grown shorter due to a number of reasons. 8 hours of sleep is the appropriate number of hours we should be sleeping in order to be healthy. However, many of us don¡¯t value sleeping because of the numerous amounts of distractions that surround us. A survey was conducted on a group of high school students on what they normally did after 9 pm. 82% of them were said to be watching TV, 55% of them were said to be using a computer online and 44% of them talking on the phone. Another 34% were told to be sending and receiving text messages. Among these students, only 21% of them could get the 8hours of sleep. As a teen, the lack of sleeping hours can cause us to perform poorly in school, increase obesity rates, and may also cause depression.
¡°Scientists studying teen sleep deprivation have several theories about why exposure to technology cuts into rest, and the research continues,¡± says Amy Wolfson.
If you are one of those who aren¡¯t getting a sufficient amount of sleep, remember to check whether you¡¯re not wasting your time on electronic devices such as your phone, laptop, or television. You surely wouldn¡¯t want to be wasting your time on something less important and essential than you¡¯re sleep.
