Guys, texting isn¡¯t so bad after all
Are you aware of the fact that texting can actually benefit us? I¡¯m sure a lot of us, teenage kids are aware of the negative impacts cellphones can bring to us. Such as diverting our attention from our studies, making us get involved in social media such as twitter or facebook, having us engage in new cellphone games and so on. According to research, some teachers say that the cellphone habits can have positive applications in the classroom.
The average of 13-17 year old teenage kid sends 2,900 texts a month by research. Text messaging can be somewhat of a distraction, however it can also teach positive language skills. ¡°Some teachers say that texting has educational tie-ins and that it can teach positive language skills¡± reports the Charlotte Observer in North Carolina. Some teachers believe that the informal writing style that we normally use when we text message can be incorporated into class lessons. Another study from California State University researchers found ¡°texting can improve teens¡¯ writing in informal essays and many other writing assignments¡±. Therefore some teachers have assigned tasks for students to translate classical literature passages into texting-speaking to show language comprehension in different contexts.
However, the positive effects would show only if you remember not to excessively text message or cross the boundaries of appropriate text messaging. Too much texting can hurt students¡¯ performance on formal types of essay writing. There are also health problems related with this. Too much of text messaging can affect children¡¯s sleeping patterns and their ability to think for themselves. One other thing that we must remember to never risk is texting while driving. Researchers have found this to be more risky and hazardous than drunk driving.
Remember that there are always pros and cons to everything. Make sure you are able to control the amount of time you spend on text messaging, and try to use it in a way in which it can benefit you. Texting isn¡¯t so bad after all is it?
