If you scrutinize some products sold in big markets, you would be bound to find a label ¡°GM¡±. GM foods are foods produced from organisms that have had specific changes introduced to their DNA using the methods of genetic engineering. There are benefits offered by producing genetically modified food. Fields would be used more productively, farmers would grow more crops at cheaper costs, and the use of pesticides during cultivation would decrease. Some foods can be produced with more nutrition, with added antioxidants and other health benefits. However, there is a reason behind why consumers have a strong opposition against this type of production. The production of GM foods is encouraged and preferred by industries due to the low costs and productivity, therefore it is just a matter of time before the majority of consumer goods come from GM companies. The problem arouses when GM foods aren¡¯t labeled as ¡®GM food¡¯ and lead to consumers unknowingly eating GM ingredients. It neither is the best choice for your health. ¡°GM foods pose a serious health risk in the areas of toxicology, allergy, and immune function, reproductive health, and metabolic, physiologic and genetic health. If you were given a choice to choose between GM foods and organic food, what would you choose? Would price be predominant over quality?
