Do we really need private education? 2013-05-21 ¿ÀÈÄ 8:15:00

Nowadays, private education became the part of students' life. If we look into their schedule, the schedule is full of private educations. But do we really need private education that much?

Private education gives student health problem. Nowadays, students have a lot of things to do. Students have to go to school, academies and study rooms. According to http://healthcare.joinsmsn.com, stress that students get is very serious. One of two students has headache and 13% of the students think about suicide. Also, middle school students get more stress than high school students because of the severe competition for entrance. According to Bundang Seoul University Hospital, 61.4% of thirteen to eighteen year old students said they have headache. 46.8% of students had indigestion, 42.1% of students had dizziness and 41.4% of students had sore back. This shows how much stress students get. But if students are forced to get or have to get private education, they will get more stress and it will lead to health problems.

Private education includes ¡®advance studying¡¯. Advance studying means the next level of education which students don¡¯t study at school. Many would think private education is helpful but it might make students not to concentrate in school lessons. Because they believe they know all the things about school lessons, students don¡¯t participate in school lessons sufficiently.

Also, actually it doesn¡¯t help a lot. From a report written by KDI researcher, studying by oneself is much successful than studying in academies. For example, one who had private education for math, the percentage for the College Scholastic Ability Test increases 1.5%. But one who studied by oneself, the percentage for the College Scholastic Ability Test increases 1.8%~4.6%. This shows that studying oneself is more advantageous than having private education to go to college. And if students depend on private education, they can¡¯t study by themselves when they have to.

Maybe, we should think again before we pushed students to go to academies. Well, do we really need private education?
