Cheongju is the area where my family has lived since I was 5 years old. From now on, I would like to introduce you to some big events that are happening in Cheongju or events which can influence Cheongju.
First of all, I will introduce the news about Jikji to you. Jikji is known as the first metal type printing machine. However, there is a news story that says there is another metal type printer which was made before Jikji. Its name is Jeungdogaja. Jeungdogaja is estimated to have been made in the ancient Korean state era. The authenticity of this printer has been a problem since 2010. After many kinds of research, it is on on the way to become a part of cultural heritage. If this printer is designated as cultural heritage, Jikji will no longer be the first metal type printer, because Jeungdogaja was made more than 138 years earlier than Jikji. For Korea, this is no problem and could even be better for the country's image, but for Cheongju this is a big problem because we will need to make another image and we will lose the awareness gained because of Jikji.
Second, there is another event in Cheongju. It's the change of its logo(CI). Cheongju presented this new logo on April 26th, and this CI is having vote of Plenary session ahead because the city council rejected this new CI. At first, Cheongju estimated it would cost about 2.8 billion won to change logo. However, because of people's dissent, Cheongju has decreased its budget to about 600 million won. This was possible because Cheongju has decided to put a sticker on the last logo, instead of totally changing it. If this new CI is determined to become Cheongju's CI, Cheongju is going to present this CI on July 1st, at the 1st anniversary of united Cheongju.
To wrap things up, there are two important problems now happening in Cheongju. One is about Jikji, and the other one is about the new CI. I hope these two things can be resolved properly, and bring happiness to Cheongju!
