“I don’t know why but I just happened to open the front cover and was shocked to see “Property of Taunton School” printed inside. I thought I should do the decent thing and return the book – paying my dues at the same time.”
Jayd Tidmarsh, 82, returned a school book that was 65 years late back to the school library after finding it while cleaning some of his stuff. Along with the book, he decided to make a donation of ￡1500.
“Inspired by Sir Jay’s actions, I am announcing an amnesty to all those other Old Tauntonians who harbor Taunton School library books on their shelves at home – I know I’m one. In so doing, we can raise further funds which will go towards developing the library.”
Thanks to Tidmarsh’s actions, the Taunton school is looking forward to other graduates to return with books they’ve forgotten to return, and possibly raise funds if such volunteers appear!
