The Kurds are betrayed¡¦again 2019-10-20 ¿ÀÈÄ 10:57:00

On Sunday, October 6, 2019, the White House announced their decision to take a nonhostile stance on the Turkish invasion of northern Syria. The United States betrayed the Kurds again, which makes the eighth time the Kurds encounter their betrayal.

The Kurds are the fourth-largest ethnic group in Middle East. The Kurdistan region sits in the north center of the Middle east where mountains are the most important geographical features. This makes the Kurdish proverb ¡°no friends but the mountains¡± cohere. Since the fall of the Ottoman Empire, the Kurds have sought for a chance to form their own nation. However, they still face betrayal to this day.

The reason why the betrayal of the United States toward the Kurds is so shocking is that they have maintained amicable relations with each other. The U.S have long allied with the Kurdish forces to fight against ISIS, encouraging Syrian Kurdish forces to form the SDF(Syrian Democratic Forces).

However, current U.S president Donald Trump surprised the world by letting the Turkish to attack the Kurdish in the border area of Syria, with a simple phone call with the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Whilst the reason the U.S conducted this decision is vague, the betrayal was inevitable. Whereas the United States has power, the Kurds are weak and thus forced to trust the U.S. This misconduct carried out by the United States, who are the ones who called for support at the first place, is clearly unacceptable and should be reprehended.

Although it might be late to save the Kurds in the Turkish border, it is possible that the United Nations help the creation of a Kurdish nation. The Kurds have had enough of repetitive persecutions and bloodbaths; there is no reason why they do not deserve their own country.
